The University of the Philippines Manila (UPM) is the country’s premier institution for health sciences and medical education. Established in 1908 as part of the original UP System and reorganized as an autonomous unit in 1979, it is widely recognized as the "Health Sciences Center of the Philippines." Located in the historic Ermita district, the campus serves as a vital hub for academic excellence, cutting-edge biomedical research, and extensive public service.

The university is home to nine degree-granting units, including the prestigious College of Medicine and College of Nursing, both of which are designated as Centers of Excellence by the Commission on Higher Education. Its academic programs span medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, public health, and allied medical professions. Central to its mission is the administration of the Philippine General Hospital (PGH), the nation’s largest tertiary government hospital and a primary training ground for Filipino health professionals.

UP Manila also hosts the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the country's leader in health research and policy development. Guided by the motto "Honor, Excellence, and Service," UPM produces highly skilled leaders dedicated to improving the well-being of the Filipino people, particularly the underserved, through innovation and a deep sense of social responsibility.
